Our season is at risk without YOU! PLEASE READ!!!!!!
Hello all! We asked for nominations by 1/15 for needed positions. It's now 1/16 and have yet to receive any raised hands for statistician, which is one of the most important positions, if not THE most important position.
We are asking two questions of everyone- please reply with a yes, or no, for each.
Would you be willing to be named "Statistician" as a board member
AND/OR
Would you be willing to do volunteer shifts to cover individual meets of statistician needs?
We are desperately seeking a statistician so we can get the season started and commit to the league, and are seeing what options may be available for us. Please reply ASAP, (we are living on borrowed time!). Both our prior statistician, who no longer has kids in the program, as well as the league's statistician, are happy to help answer questions and guide you. All of the other team's statisticians are friendly and helpful for "at meet" questions.
Here's what it all entails:
One person must be named as the "Statistician" as a board member, and attend a league statistician pre-season meeting. These are typically on Zoom. Hypothetically, if you're not available at that time/date, we could hopefully find someone to attend and take notes for you. You get a vote on all board issues. You also are given free registration for taking on an integral part of the team. We have a few meetings a year, but most business is conducted by text or email.
The statistician, or a volunteer, must be at each meet by 5pm. Coaches will have already completed a line up. Both teams merge them together to create a complete line up at the meet. You enter times, finishing positions, and DQ's as they come in, to a team provided laptop. You can absolutely step away to watch your kids swim, grab a snack, etc... but it does require most of your focus for the much of the meet, though it's at least a nice spot at a table in the shade! After the meet, once results are confirmed by the referee and coaches, you click a few buttons to save it all into Swimtopia.
From home, labels get printed out for ribbons, and are sent in to practice the next day (if possible) for other volunteers to work on labeling ribbons. This would likely need to be done by the named statistician for logistical reasons, but if you're on vacation for a week, arrangements can be made. The team pays for ink, labels, paper, and any other needed supplies. Results are also sent to the League's Statistician via email. All of this (in this paragraph) takes less than 20 minutes.
We are truly hopeful the team can come together on this so we can have a successful 2024 season, or in reality- one at all! Please consider this a personal plea to YOU to help out.
Thank you,
Danya, Marcia, Katja
